“Lurn-er” Walks the Walk with Core Values

Welcome - subscribe to our mailing list to be the first to know when new case studies and good news about performance marketing is hot off the presses!

On a hot August weekend, one of our Lurn team members will lace up her sneakers to walk 60 miles in three days in someone else’s shoes for the second time.

Rachel Honoway, Chief Product Officer at Lurn, believes in Lurn’s core value “Lurn to Give” and she’s putting it in action by walking along side thousands of other men and women in the Susan G. Komen 3 Day for the Cure to raise awareness and funding to find a cure for breast cancer.

“I don’t have breast cancer.  Neither does my mom, my mother-in-law, my sisters, aunts or cousins; not even a friend,” explains Rachel Honoway, Chief Product Officer of Lurn, Inc.  ”But, I chose this as a cause to get behind anyway – for two reasons. First, I want to be able to continue saying that breast cancer hasn’t directly affected my family and my close friends.

Second, I want to help other moms,” Honoway continued, ” even if I don’t know them. I know how hectic my home is when I’m sick for a day – I can’t imagine what it must be like in a home where the mom is sick for months and years… or worse…”

More than 1.3 million women are diagnosed with breast cancer globally annually.  It is the most frequently diagnosed cancer and the leading cause of death among women worldwide accounting for more than 465,000 deaths each year according to the Susan G Komen website.

Honoway participated in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure four years ago and is currently training and fundraising for this year’s event in Southeast Michigan, August 13-15.  ”The commitment is more than just the weekend of the event,” Honoway explains.  ”It’s something my family and I work around for the whole summer.  And for the ‘privilege’ of doing this – I have to raise $2300.”

Since its inception in 2003, the Komen 3-Day for the Cure has raised nearly $500 million.  3-Day for the Cure net proceeds help pay for vital global breast cancer research and local community programs supporting education, screening and treatment.

Komen for the Cure paid for half a million breast screenings in 2009—part of a nearly $1.5 billion commitment to research, advocacy and community programs since Komen was founded in 1982.

To sponsor Honoway in her walk, make a tax-deductible donate to the Susan G. Komen 3 Day for the Cure through her link:

“I would sincerely appreciate ANYTHING that this may inspire in you,” says Honoway. “Whether it’s a donation, joining my team and walking with me, starting your own team in your area or even a note to say ‘Go Rach!’ – it’ll make my day.  *That* is what I believe Core Value #10 is all about!”  She promises to take pictures and we’ll post an update.

  1. It is only remarkable that you don’t know anyone with the disease. Almost everyone I know has had it or has it in the family or lost someone to it. You are to be applauded for your kindness and compassion!
