MADIGAN FILES LAWSUITS AGAINST ACAI BERRY COMPANIES

IF the allegations filed by the Illinois Attorney General are true, GOOD GOING! The charges filed were not only filed against the Acia Berry companies but "an affiliate marketer that uses Internet search engines, pop-up ads, Web sites, and advertising on social networking sites to drive Internet traffic to suppliers’ Web sites."

Affiliate Marketing Industry Ripe for Quality Effort

Will Martin-Gill has posted an interesting article on the Feed Front website. Will says, "As the industry (affiliate marketing) matures and the stakes get higher, issues of quality weigh heavily on affiliates and merchants alike." Then he discusses "quality measures that can elevate the industry, lifting reputations and profits with them." Interesting!

Shawn Collins, on his Affiliate Tips Blog, is talking about Pokens. He says, "If you aren’t familiar with Pokens, there are little devices with USB connectors that house information on your social network profiles and contact information. When you meet somebody else who has one, you touch your Pokens with them and exchange your contact information." Now that's COOL!

Changes Are Good

On his blog Jim Kukral is talking about change. He says that change is a good thing and he's going to do it again. "I’ve been blogging since 2001 here at JimKukral.com (drink!). Struq Launched Dynamic Retargeting Platform

Laurie Sullivan, writing on the Media Post Publication site, announced; "Struq officially launched a real-time behavioral retargeting platform Thursday in the United Kingdom that customizes ads in real time as consumers click from one site to the next." Wow! This platform is restricted to the UK for now but there are discussions taking place now about a roll out date to launch the program in the US.

Increase Your Conversions by Complementing a Merchant’s Website

On the Affiliate Classroom Blog, Tennyson Rog isn't advising plagiarism. She says, "Think about it. If your website promotes a merchant’s product, it is a mouthpiece for that merchant. What you present, and how you display it, reflects not only on you, but also on the merchant whose products you are promoting."

American Express Open Forum Post about Mom Bloggers

Newspapergirl, writing on her own blog, says, "Why mom bloggers? I’d rephrase that to why women bloggers. The answer is that women love to talk and share information with other women. Evelyn Grazini posting on the Affiliate Classroom Blog says that she has been kept busy with her Facebook friends, her Squidoo people, blog posts for a variety of blog topics, email, and other social networking activities. But, she says, that's going to have to change "because many affiliate marketers are forgoing blog posts in favor of making Twitter Tweets."

Sony recruits daddy bloggers to test and describe products

Several large companies have been recruiting "mommy bloggers" for several years now after they discovered that have a great influence on purchasing behavior. Now Sony is going after "daddy bloggers" turn for the same reason. Several high tech dads are going to participate in the program and they're listed.

New IMShopping Survey Shows E-Commerce Hindered by Lack of Human Assistance for Shopper

According to the Entrepreneur 2009 website in a story posted today a survey taken by IMShopping reveals that a "Large percentage of respondents indicate lack of assistance affected decision to purchase products online." This could be usable information to affiliate marketers who incorporate live chat into a comparison shopping website.

On the Post Click Marketing Blog Scott is talking about one of the roundtable discussions at Affiliate Summit East 09 - “Advanced Landing Pages for Affiliates”. It's an interesting post and Scott makes some excellent points.

On his Super Affiliate Mindset Blog Amit is talking about the....

Future of PPC Affiliate Marketing

He says that he "can tell you right now that PPC affiliate marketing is here to stay, however, you’ll need to change and adopt your strategy (and it’s more than just moving over to Yahoo and Bing). That's what Chad says in his post on the on the CDF Networks Blog. He says that a mistake he made early on was trying to promote in too many niches. There's an interesting post on the eMarketer website today. The writer says that just a number of clicks on an ad statistic does not provide a marketer with the whole picture. More information is required and he goes on the explain how long a user "dwells" on an ad is information that marketer's need.

Interview with Frank Kern and John Reese

Anthony Robbins interviews Frank Kern and John Reese. Both of them are millionaire Internet marketers. Anthony says, "neither had any “real” education. Neither one finished college and they both went from being broke to becoming wealthy." You don't want to miss this interview.

The use of spammy-looking web pages to promote sales

Minstrel, posting on the 5 Star Affiliates blog, says that one of the things that he has "found in reading blogs, ebooks, and article on affiliate marketing, and in viewing affiliate web pages is that there is a style in many of these sites which is not only common but apparently encouraged by many gurus. That style I can only describe as generally garish and extremely spammy looking, the kind of thing that any decent spam filter would intercept and funnel to the trash."

The editorial staff has made an interesting post on the Affiliate Classroom Blog. The writer says, "With the different search engines available and the arrival of Microsoft’s new search engine Bing, a quick look at the SEO basics might not be a bad idea. Because each search engine judges your site with a different set of criteria, you should become familiar with what does and doesn’t make a difference." Sounds like a good idea!


Oprah and Attorney General Sue Affiliates Over Acai and other Rebill Offers

The finger pointing has already started. Linda Buquet reports on the 5 Star Affiliates Blog that it looks like trouble is brewing. She says, "2 lawsuits hit the wires yesterday that CPA affiliates need to be aware of. If you have a flog or fake news site and are using fake celebrity endorsements or if you are doing rebill offers, you could be in trouble."

How Ad Position Affects Conversion Rates

Ms. Sullivan says that Google's Chief Economist Hal Varian calls the problem "tricky". Mr. Varian is quoted as saying this is true "because Google ranks ads by bid times and ad quality, so ads in higher positions tend to have higher quality. These higher quality ads tend to have higher conversion rates." For clarification, read the whole article.

Google Aiding Twitter, Facebook In Cyber Attack Investigation

Writing on the Online Media website, Laurie Sullivan reported, "A Google spokesperson confirmed late Monday that the Mountain View, Calif., Internet giant 'has been in contact with some affected companies,' Twitter and Facebook, 'to help investigate' the distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks that began last week on some of the world's most popular social media sites."

if you do well. That's what Jonathan Volk says. Volk goes on to say, "You know you're doing something right when some people begin to hate you. Whether it be from taking over their traffic source, to dominating a niche they are in, to whatever... The more you do, the more people will not like it."

According to the Internet Retailer website and Margaret River who is an industry marketing manager, e-commerce, for Akamai Technologies Inc., (a provider of content delivery technology). "Online video may be a hot online merchandising and marketing tool, but when videos fail to load properly on a retail web site, impatient shoppers tend to blame the merchant even if the problem lies off the retailer’s site." Now there's something to think about!

Yahoo Hammered Due To Deal With Microsoft

Doug Caverly, writing on the Internet Financial News website says, "Carol Bartz, who was brought in as Yahoo's CEO after Jerry Yang failed to accept Microsoft's acquisition offers, seemed determined to get Yahoo back on its feet independent of all other companies. Or failing that, she was at least supposed to hold out for "boatloads of money." But she didn't. The new Microsoft-Yahoo deal doesn't involve any sort of upfront payment; a bit of revenue-sharing is all that's supposed to take place. So Yahoo's stock has taken quite a hit since the deal went through."

Google-Yahoo Ad Deal: This Is Not A Merger

The "non-exclusive" agreement which allows Yahoo access to Google's AdSense for search and content advertising programs in the U.S. and Canada was announced. This is a 10 year deal. An initial 4 year term is followed by two successive optional three-year renewal periods.

New York Affiliates - Important Advertising Tax Survey

On the 5 Star Affiliates Blog Linda Buquet is asking that all affiliate marketers in New York participate in the New York Advertising Tax Impact Survey being conducted by Affiliate Summit.

Chad, posting on the CDF blog, announced a new contest. Chad says, "It’s been over a year since the last mentoring contest.  The response was great last time, so lets do it again.  This time the prize will be a 45 minute, one on one phone consultation. I have done these consultation sessions on a very limited basis in the past and the feedback has been very good.   The last person I spoke with told me later he increased his affiliate income by about 10x after applying some of the new methods we discussed!"

Zappos Acquired By Amazon!

Yep! It's true! It's a done deal. And what's really amazing is that they are buying it for less than 1X revenue which is a really, really low (usually companies get 3X revenue at least). This is just another indication of the depressed M&A market.

According to the article at PCW, "Under the terms of an agreement announced Wednesday, Amazon will acquire all outstanding shares and assume all outstanding options of Zappos in exchange for approximately 10 million shares of Amazon common stock. Those Zappos shares are worth about $807 million. In addition, Amazon will give Zappos employees about $40 million in case and restricted stock."

Affiliates - How To Set Up a Facebook Ads Campaign

Linda Buquet is blogging about Zac Johnson instructions about how to set up a facebook ad campaign. Linda says, "One good traffic option to consider these days in addition to PPC is Facebook. Google Slaps Squidoo, Squidoo Blames Affiliates?

This is news that directly affects affiliate marketers and certainly should be noted and acted upon. Evelyn Garzina, writing on the Affiliate Classroom blog tells us that the two major changes are; 1) if you have a new lens, you need to have more than three modules (not including the introduction) or it will not appear to be publicly published, even if it has been and 2) no more iframes.


Affiliates banned from Twitter?

On the Fish and Clicks website Paul Wright is talking about how Twitter has "now taken steps to claw back commission from affiliates promoting their products via twitter." Is everybody out to get us?

On the 5 Star Affiliates blog Linda Buquet is blogging about a new Google advertising wrinkle....and this is a biggie. Linda reports that the letter Google sent out to affiliates using the Google Money Tree scam read in part, ""It's come to our attention that you have submitted ads that promote Google Money Tree or ads that promote a misrepresented affiliation with Google. Due to multiple complaints from our users and publishers, we've made the decision not to accept these ads.

This is a notification that your account has been suspended due to the submission of these ads and your ads will no longer run on Google. Please note that future accounts you open will also be suspended." WHOA!

High Shipping Costs Top List of Reasons for Shopping Cart Abandonment

Nathania Johnson on Search Engine Watch reports that the main reason, according to a survey, that customers abandon their shopping carts online is because of high shipping charges.

Huge Money In Asian Markets

Jonathan Volk says that "if you’re an affiliate, whether you can speak Chinese, Hindi, or just English—you should be considering opportunities (in the Asian market)." Jonathan says there is money to be made.

New BT Principles May Not Go Far Enough To Stop Regulation

"BT" for those who are wondering, stands for "behavioral targeting" standards. Ms. Davis says, "a coalition of the major ad industry trade groups have issued new privacy principles for online behavioral advertising, or tracking people as they surf the Web and serving ads based on sites visited." The principles were issued in response to the prospect of new regulations being issued by the powers-that-be.

Affiliates Can Win In The Media Buy Game

That's what Erin Cigich on the Adotas website. She says, "One of the absolute coolest things about affiliate marketing is the fact that a single affiliate can take on a Fortune 500 company for ad space on a site like MSNBC." Ms. Cigich goes on to explain the advantages have over agency media buyers.

On the eMarketer website there's an interesting article that suggests marketers just might be missing the boat....."Moms are the key decision-makers for many family purchases, and increasingly the information they obtain and activities they engage in online affect those decisions.

David Goldman is a staff writer for CNN. He has posted an interesting news article that says, ".....no social network is safely on top of the market." According to Nielson, "Facebook users logged 13.9 billion minutes on the site in April. That compares to 5 billion minutes on MySpace, 300 million on Twitter, and 202.4 million minutes on LinkedIn."

There's an interesting post on the CPA Affiliate Blog today. The writer says, "With the Pay per click model you have the ability to turn pay per click into pay per action profit." He/she goes on to explain how.

Forbes on the Advertising Tax

Shawn Collins is steamed. There's an article in Forbes; "Taxing a Virtual Presence" written by Lee Gomes that has made Shawn a little hot under the collar. Shawn says, "First off, the article didn’t include any perspective from an affiliate marketer, and the view of affiliate marketers was rather narrow and uninformed". But what really burned Shawn up was the statement, " “a large percentage of all spam e-mails are from aspiring affiliate marketers”....WHOA! Who says so? Where are the statistics to back that up. That's what Shawn wants to know. I want to know, too.

According to the Internet Retailer website, "Since launching its e-commerce site a year ago, multichannel bookseller Borders Group Inc. has expanded its number of Borders Rewards program members by 23% to more than 32 million, the retailer says."

Q1 online sales recover, if you can call it that, from their Q4 dip

Based on recession numbers, “Flat is the new up" according to Internet Retailer. "Online sales in the first quarter were flat compared to Q1 sales a year ago, comScore reports. While that is pretty grim news by historical standards, it’s an improvement over the 3% decline that comScore measured in the fourth quarter of 2008."
